Back To: The
Tyranny of Materiality
Attending the Spinal Cord Society Fundraiser . . . their
motto is "Cure not Care" . . . I don't agree: why not cure
and
care? I do not believe I will be cured though support research
on any and all levels . . . these are good people involved in the local
chapter . . . I had a toe wound at the time so am sporting a wool sock
. . . lower extremity wounds are a bitch to heal because of poor circulation
and my feet are sooo cold! I bought some of those hunter's socks
that are battery powered to keep your feet warm . . . I think it helped
. . .
Christopher Reeve is a complex guy / concept . . . I read his autobiography and did a bit of reasearch a few years ago for a paper: Life Altering Revision: Christopher Reeve as a Quadriplegic
The fundraiser the following year . . . I ended up in the newspaper . . . Paul Richter is incredible: a former New York State Trooper who was shot in the line of duty, he rallies every ounce of clout he has to get things done . . . last year he slid the Richter Bill through the State Legislature in record time: the law collects revenue from fines / tickets and pools it into a Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund . . . I haven't spoken to him recently but last I heard he was discussing an attempt to implement a similar law in every state . . . it's a great concept . . .
My professional Brandee portrait . . . Olan Mills has a policy against photographing animals though since she was a Service Dog she broke down another barrier . . . remnants of pink hair . . .
